Kacey & Charlie’s Epic Waterfall Engagement on the Big Island
If you’re dreaming of the most unforgettable way to propose in Hawaii, a Kona helicopter proposal might just be the ultimate experience. For Kacey and Charlie, this once-in-a-lifetime moment unfolded high above the breathtaking North Kohala coast—and ended at a secluded, oceanfront waterfall accessible only by helicopter.
Their adventure began at the Blue Hawaiian Helicopters base in Waikoloa. After takeoff, we soared over ancient valleys, rugged sea cliffs, and some of the most dramatic scenery on the Big Island. The moment we passed the sheer drop-offs of the North Kohala coastline, you could feel the excitement building. Waterfalls cascaded hundreds of feet down the cliffs, disappearing into the ocean below. It’s one of those views that simply doesn’t feel real until you’re in it.
And then came the moment none of us expected: the helicopter began to descend—straight toward a tiny patch of grass perched between the pounding surf and a towering waterfall. With barely enough room to land, the pilot set us down gently on this magical sliver of earth. Sea spray on one side, the roar of the waterfall on the other. Pure Hawaii magic.
With the ocean swirling below us and mist in the air, Charlie dropped to one knee and asked Kacey to marry him. Her reaction? Pure joy. Pure perfection. The waterfall, the wind, the cliffs—it all wrapped around their moment like nature’s own cathedral.
After the proposal, we spent time exploring the area for their engagement photos. The landscape gave us everything: lush textures, wild ocean energy, soft light filtering through the mist. These two were glowing—completely wrapped up in the moment, and it shows in every single photo.
A helicopter proposal in Kona isn’t just an experience; it’s a story you’ll tell forever. And photographing moments like this, in places most people will never set foot, is truly one of the best parts of being a Big Island engagement photographer.
Kacey and Charlie, congratulations again! What an honor to capture such an extraordinary beginning to your forever.
