Sitting in a tide pool at the beach in your clothes? Yes please! Try a Sunset Splash Session at Old Kona Airport Beach.
(Don’t judge until you scroll through these photos!)
This is my new favorite thing. Put on a beautiful dress, head to the beach, take some gorgeous photos and then hop into a tide pool as the sun is sinking low. It is so beautiful, you can’t deny it’s worth walking dripping wet back to the car! Plan on it and plan ahead and you’ll be so glad you did. This kind of photography has been called “Drown the Gown” or “Trash the Dress” but I like to call is a “Splash Session.” Combined with sunset, you really can’t go wrong! It can be done for any occasion: portraits, maternity, couples, seniors . . . it’s just always beautiful.
I found a large tide pool in the lava rocks at Old Kona Airport Beach, and noticed that it is usually full of water at high tide. I’d played around with this tide pool during a senior session the previous week with gorgeous results, so when my daughter Eden and her husband Preston said they were willing to get in with their wedding clothes (they got married last month), I was all for it!
It was overcast and gray when we got to the beach (but you’d never know from the beautiful photos we took). It started raining, and I almost gave up. But then the sky opened up into the most glorious orange glow, and I knew it would all be worth it.
I’m starting with a couple of photos from the end of the session when the sky painted the water pinkish orange just to hook you . . . then scroll through to see the story of the shoot.
Let me know if you’d like to book your own sunset splash session . . . it’s so much fun!
