Kukio Elopement

A Heartfelt Kukio Beach Elopement on the Big Island of Hawaii

Josh and Serita’s intimate Big Island, Hawaii elopement at Kukio Beach was filled with joy, family, ocean views, and a sunset vow exchange they will never forget. When Hurricane Lala was forecast to arrive on their original wedding date, they made the decision to celebrate one day early—and were rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous evening on the Kona coast.

As a Big Island elopement photographer, it was an honor to document this meaningful celebration of love at one of Hawaii’s most beautiful beach locations.

A First Look at Kukio Beach

Josh and Serita began their wedding day with a private first look on the beach at Kukio. The shoreline, warm island light, and peaceful setting gave them a quiet moment together before beginning the celebration.

Serita was truly effervescent—full of joy, radiant, and glowing with love throughout the day. Josh was clearly head over heels for his bride, and every glance between them reflected the depth of their relationship.

Their Kukio Beach elopement was intimate but deeply supported: nine guests, including both families, gathered to witness their vows and celebrate this new beginning alongside them.

Family Photos Along the Kona Coast

Before the ceremony, we captured family portraits at Kukio Beach. Small elopements can still hold a powerful sense of community, and Josh and Serita’s families brought warmth, encouragement, and genuine excitement to every part of the day.

Including family in an elopement allows couples to preserve both the intimate experience of a smaller wedding and the meaningful presence of the people who have loved and supported them along the way.

A Sunset Vow Exchange at Kukio

After family photos, we made our way to a stunning cliff point overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With the coast stretching out behind them and the sun slowly sinking toward the horizon, Josh and Serita exchanged vows surrounded by their closest family members.

Kukio is an exceptional location for a Big Island Hawaii elopement because it offers more than a beautiful beach. The combination of sandy shoreline, lava-rock coastal features, open ocean views, and elevated cliffside viewpoints creates variety within a single wedding experience.

As the light softened into sunset, their ceremony became even more beautiful. There was laughter, emotion, encouragement from family, and the unmistakable feeling that their celebration happened exactly as it was meant to. Their day was a reminder that flexibility can lead to something even better than originally planned. By moving their wedding forward one day, they experienced calm conditions, glowing sunset light, and an unforgettable evening for their Big Island vow exchange.

Why Choose Kukio Beach for a Big Island Elopement?

For couples dreaming of an intimate beach wedding in Hawaii, Kukio offers a stunning setting on the Kona coast. Its natural beauty creates an unforgettable backdrop for portraits, first looks, family photos, and a heartfelt vow exchange.
